Why ‘Wealdstone’? Well, because to call the painting ‘Bucket’ would not, I felt, have had quite the same ring to it. And there it was. Not abandoned, not as important as that. Just lying on waste ground near the railway at Wealdstone, with nature’s stage director pouring sunlight on it. It seemed to have a cheerful, jaunty quality. ‘Do your worst, world’, it seemed to be saying, ‘you’ll never separate me from my bucket-ness.’
