Acrylic on gessoed panel

We live in troubled times. Amid ever more security cameras, insecurity abounds. While surveillance cameras multiply, private citizens with box brownies are harassed and suspect. Timid painters seeking reference in public places feel, like their digital images, exposed. Adventures off the beaten path are fraught with anxiety. Where once we trespassed with little compunction, now we skulk. We dive at dawn into forbidden depths to find out facts. What is the shape of that stanchion? How does that pillar abut that transom? What connects those leads to that post? We are the hidden enquirers. Or so we think. When we return from our dawn patrols we get our comeuppance. We're greeted with: 'The milkman wondered what you were doing crawling all over the underside of that motorway bridge.' Aahh.
