This picture had a curious gestation. The goose in question was part of the suite of reference photographs I used when working on the painting, Flotilla (see Gallery page). After that painting sold, a certain family member requested I paint a copy of it to hang in a particular position at home. Ever obliging, I did so and produced Flotilla 2 (not shown on website). While once again working through the reference pictures, I painted this study of the single bird simply because he was left out of both Flotillas.
