It was the afternoon the sheep got out and they didn’t want to be out. They huddled by the gate to the farm, wanting to be found, wanting to be let back into the warmth of the barn. Two of the walkers went to find the farmer’s wife. One of the walkers was left out by the old log pile. The snow came down harder. The woodland copse gradually receded, fading away to indistinctness. It was too cold to draw. It had to be memorized. ‘The winter evening settles down...’
